In Both Options Above...
- You own the app.
- It can be optionally submitted through your own Apple Developer Account (extra $99/year payable to Apple directly)
- You can always hire someone else to replace your app with a completely new app - it becomes just an update you submit to Apple - that's all - like a new version of your app that is developed by someone else. Apple doesn't care.
- The only differences between the 2 options are: a) you pay a lot more if you want the source code, as it then becomes a custom app, and not something that is generated from an app creation wizard. b) You do get a much more fancy podcast player with some power features, but honestly, it's not worth the extra investment because those who want a powerful podcast app and want all the fancy features probably already use one of the existing popular ones - like OverCast or Podcast Addict. And they're already listening to your show via their favorite app anyway.
- You cannot get a custom podcast app developed for less anywhere else. And if someone tells you they are going to charge less, there's a very good chance they're in a far away country, and you're probably going to get ripped off, assuming you can even find and interview and select a proper developer, manage them, get them to develop the app, and then continue to work with them in case you need any changes or support.
